A dental home built just for Phoenix's youngest smiles.

Phoenix families told us they wanted a practice where their kids could be genuinely comfortable — not just tolerated. So we built one. The Martinez pediatric wing is purpose-designed, professionally led, and genuinely fun for children from infancy through the teen years.

Dr. James Chen,
Pediatric Specialist

Dr. Chen joined Martinez Family Dentistry specifically to lead our new pediatric wing — bringing with him advanced specialist training in pediatric dentistry and a philosophy that makes children not just comfortable, but genuinely at ease in the dental chair.

He understands how children think about dental visits. He knows that a positive experience at age 3 shapes a lifetime of oral health. And he has the patience, creativity, and expertise to make every visit count — no matter how anxious a child arrives.

"My goal is simple: every child who leaves our office should leave with a smile — and want to come back."

— Dr. James Chen, Pediatric Specialist

Comprehensive Pediatric Care

Everything your child needs,
all in one place

First Dental Visits

We recommend a child's first dental visit by age one, or within 6 months of their first tooth. Dr. Chen makes this milestone gentle, fun, and entirely stress-free for both child and parent.

Cleanings & Prevention

Regular professional cleanings, fluoride treatments, and dental sealants form the foundation of a lifetime of healthy teeth. We make routine care part of your child's normal, positive routine.

Cavity Treatment

When cavities occur, Dr. Chen treats them using the gentlest available techniques — tooth-colored fillings, careful anesthesia management, and child-paced explanations that keep anxiety low.

Anxiety-Free Approach

We use tell-show-do techniques, distraction, and positive reinforcement to transform anxious children into confident patients. No judgment. No rushing. No child should fear the dentist.

Orthodontic Assessments

Early assessment of bite development and tooth alignment can prevent complex treatment later. We refer to trusted orthodontic partners and coordinate your child's care every step of the way.

Emergency Pediatric Care

Knocked-out tooth? Dental injury during sports? We see pediatric emergencies as quickly as possible. Call 602-555-0147 — if after hours, follow our voicemail for emergency guidance.

Parent Questions

Answers before the visit

When should my child first see a dentist? +

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends a first visit by age one, or within 6 months of the first tooth erupting. Early visits let us catch issues early, establish positive habits, and give parents the guidance they need.

My child is terrified of dentists. Can you help? +

Absolutely — this is exactly what our pediatric wing is designed for. Dr. Chen specializes in working with anxious children. We use a tell-show-do approach, allow plenty of time, and never rush. Many of our most enthusiastic young patients were terrified on their first visit.

Can parents come into the treatment room? +

Yes, especially for younger children or first visits. We work with your family to make everyone comfortable. For some procedures, having a parent present helps enormously. Dr. Chen will discuss this with you before each appointment.

Do you accept children of all ages? +

Yes — from first baby teeth through the teenage years. When a patient ages into adult dentistry, they can transition seamlessly to Dr. Martinez's care within the same practice. Continuity of care, one family, one practice.

Give your child's smile the fresh start it deserves.
